Hi, I’m Gem King! I’m a freelance writer.

I have a Zoology degree (please, ask me about it) and ten years’ experience writing content for businesses, medical charities, start-ups and… myself! I trained as a Medical Editor, so you know I’ve got a great eye for detail. (I can spot a double space in font size 8 from a mile off.)

I quit that scene just before COVID hit. Since then, I freelanced successfully for five years before joining Pip Decks, a content start-up, where I became the Head Of Content.

And if you want someone with immediate availability, you’ll be thrilled to hear I was recently made redundant from that role – so I can’t wait to meet you.

What can we achieve together?

Well, I produced a load of the content for Pip Decks’ ‘Stories That Sell’ sales funnel, including the ‘how to’ resources. So you bet I’m going to be able to tell stories that have your customers reaching for their wallets and purses.

Oh and I produced Negotiation Tactics, too. It’s always handy to have someone with 50+ negotiation tips up their sleeve working on your team.

I also oversaw three writers working on three different Pip Decks at once, and I honestly loved organising that workload. If you need a content calendar, tracker and/or pipeline, let me at it.

And I literally can’t help myself, I will proof everything you put in front of me. Twice.

Proofing

I’m a trained medical editor and have proofread tens of research manuscripts for publication in world-leading medical journals and ebooks. Most of this work is under NDA, but I can share some limited detail by email.

    I project managed and copyedited this deck from scratch, alongside the Author (a world-renowned hostage negotiator). I also scripted and co-directed the 50 videos, and produced multiple blogs, emails and Miro boards to accompany the launch.

Other interests

Let’s go slightly off-piste! I have a degree in Zoology, a deep knowledge of canine behaviour and an encyclopaedic knowledge of British wildlife (especially birds).

I’ve also written extensively about sustainability, innovation, facilitation, and mental and physical health. I care deeply about accessibility, inclusivity and social justice. And I once wrote 2,000 words about a device that cleans cows’ udders (yes, really).
